| The BioCount-Auto comprises a light box which is fitted with a camera stand, a digital camera, image analysis software, and essential accessories. The camera is connected to a PC by the USB port. The PC (requires Win 98, 2000, XP, Vista) is not supplied as part of the kit, most labs have these, or they can be obtained locally. The kit is easy to set up and use. Petri dishes or other plates, up to 150mm diameter are placed under the light box. Illumination can be provided from under the surface or not, as required to suit the object. The camera, which can focus manually down to 4 cm. Transmits the image to the PC in seconds. The Image Analysis Software is used to frame the area around the image (e.g. round or square), bightness and contrast are adjusted, the image is thresholded to isolate the colonies and in seconds they are counted. The digital camera itself is a useful unit since it is powered by small AAA batteries and can function as a stand-alone portable camera. Photo software is also included allowing the digital camera (max resolution 1024x768) to be used for almost any photographic work in the organisation, in the lab or outside! |
