| 1. The Biocount-Auto system, comprising Digital camera with USB interface, light box and Image Analysis Software-shown with laptop, use with any Win 98 PC. | 2. Controlled fom the PC keyboard a colour photo image is taken with the digital camera used with the BioCount Auto system. This is transferred in seconds via the TWAIN interface to the PC, and converted to a grayscale image (shown right) at 640x480 pixels. A circular frame is applied to enclose the colonies in the petri dish area |  |
| 3. The image brightness/contrast is adjusted if necessary, then it is “thresholded” to highlight the colonies as black “dots” against a white background. Likely max/min pixel size for the colonies are set, the required count statistics (if required) are chosen, and then the count is made in seconds !! |

| 4. This is the image of the counted colonies. The software will print the number of of colony on the image, if required, to match the colony number in the printed list (shown right above). This plate gave a total count of 48 colonies. A Table of colonies counted, numbered, and showing area of colony in pixels for this plate and a Histogram is shown below. Other data, such as standard deviation, Max/Min gray values, coordinates, etc. can be displayed. |  |
